Scholarship Description:

Northwestern University is the world’s leading private research university, ranked 9th in the U.S. Northwestern University School of Medicine is located in downtown Chicago, the third largest city in the U.S. Its affiliated hospital, Memorial Hospital, is ranked first in the state and in the top 10 nationally, providing world-class resources for basic biomedical and translational clinical research. The campus is close to the world-class business district of Michigan Avenue and Lake Michigan, and within 15 minutes of Streeterville, Gold Cost, Lincoln Park, Lakeview and other neighbourhoods by foot or public transport, making it a convenient and safe place to live.

Dr. Peng’s laboratory is dedicated to the development of novel nano- and immunotherapy targeting brain tumours and their immune microenvironment through multidisciplinary research in tumour immunology and metabolism, nanomedical engineering and bioinformatics, to unravel the interplay between brain tumours – immune microenvironment – clinical standard therapies, to explore the mechanisms and targets of drug resistance in brain tumours, and to develop novel nano- and immunotherapy targeting brain tumours and their immune microenvironment to improve the clinical treatment of brain tumour patients. The laboratory has well established nano-, immuno- and immuno-therapeutic capabilities. The laboratory has well-established nano-, immuno-, metabolic-, molecular bio-, bioinformatics- and clinical translational research platforms, sufficient preclinical research tumour models and transgenic animal models, a wealth of clinical samples and clinical databases for translational medicine, and extensive collaboration with experts from other disciplines and clinical neurosurgeons. The laboratory’s research and collaborative work has been published in PNAS, Nature Communications, Nature Immunology, Biomaterials, Science Advances, Science Translational Medicine, Journal of Experimental Medicine, Cancer Immunology Research, Cell Reports and other high profile journals. The lab has a friendly and harmonious atmosphere, advocates equal and positive academic discussions, supports young scholars’ independent research thinking and grant applications, encourages interdisciplinary exchanges and collaborations within and between groups, and encourages work-life balance, and actively supports the career development of new generations of students and scholars. The laboratory’s research interests include nanomedical engineering, tumour immunology and metabolism, second-generation sequencing (NGS) and clinical translation. The laboratory’s technology platform covers small molecule drugs, antibody drugs, RNA drugs and vaccines, gene editing and cellular therapies, and is conducive to the career development of young students and academics in academia or industry.
