Scholarship Description:
Xin (Maizie) Zhou is an Assistant Professor of Biomedical Engineering, Data Science Institute (core faculty), and Computer Science (secondary appointment) at Vanderbilt University. She completed her undergraduate study at Huazhong University of Science and Technology in China, and holds a PhD in Neuroscience from Wake Forest School of Medicine, and a PhD in Computer Science from Stanford University. Her main research interests are computational genomics, bioinformatics, computational neuroscience, and machine learning. Her team works on a wide range of data science problems, including designing new probabilistic models in high throughput sequencing data with applications to human genomics and metagenomics, data mining of large cohort studies in neurological diseases, and understanding dynamical behavior and function of neural circuits.

Eligibility criteria:
Students from mathematics, statistics, computing and bioinformatics/engineering related disciplines are welcome to apply, as are students with a strong mathematical computing and programming background and an interest in laboratory orientation.
