Scholarship Description:
The Power Electronic Systems Laboratory in the Department of Electrical Engineering at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UWM) currently has a number of fully funded Ph.D. student positions available (Spring or Autumn 2024). Accepted candidates will work with Dr Feng Guo on high performance power electronic converters based on wide bandwidth devices for electrified transportation, microgrids, energy storage and renewable energy applications.
The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UWM) is located in Milwaukee, the cultural and economic centre of the state of Wisconsin, USA, in a beautiful and safe setting on the western shore of Lake Michigan. It is one of two doctoral-granting comprehensive research universities in the University of Wisconsin System, the largest university in the Milwaukee metropolitan area and the second largest in the state. Dr Feng Guo will join the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering in January 2024. Dr Guo received a B.S. degree in electrical engineering and automation from China University of Mining and Technology in 2014, an M.S. degree in electrical engineering from Northeastern University in 2017, and a Ph.D. degree in electrical and electronic engineering from the University of Nottingham, UK in 2021.From January 2022 to present, he has been a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville, USA, His research interests include the design and control of high-efficiency, high-power-density power electronic converters and the optimal design of high-frequency magnetic components applied to next-generation electrified transportation (electric aircraft/ships and heavy-duty electric vehicles), energy storage systems, and renewable energy sources. His research papers have been published in more than 10 IEEE flagship journals and 10 top IEEE conferences. Dr Feng Guo was awarded the second prize for the best journal paper of the IEEE Industrial Applications Society (IAS) 2022. Dr Guo currently serves as a reviewer for several top journals such as IEEE-Power Electronics Society (PELS) and Industrial Electronics Society (IES), and as a reviewer for Elsevier book proposals in the field of electrical energy.

Eligibility criteria:
- -Experience with one or more of the following skills Matlab/Simulink, PLECS, dSPACE, RT-Box, Altium Designer, DSP or FPGA.
- -Experience of designing and testing wide bandgap power electronic converters.
- -Experience in the design and manufacture of high frequency magnetic components.
- -Experience of EMI/EMC modelling and analysis.
