Scholarship Description:
Dr. Xiaoming Zhou received his PhD degree from the University of Florida and completed his post-doctoral fellowship at The Johns Hopkins University. He is an associate professor at Uniformed Services University (USU). He and his team have published multiple papers in highly impactful journals such as PNAS, JASN and KI. He currently has multiple grants from the US Department of Defense and was a scientific reviewer for a Department of Defense medical research program.
USU is a part of Walter Reed National Military Medical Center located at Bethesda, Maryland. Bethesda is a beautiful city adjacent to Washington DC. USU is the only federal university that trains medical doctors and other health care professionals for the US military. A majority of USU funding is from the Department of Defense. USU strictly follows the federal salary guidelines and sponsors H1 visa and green card applications. US permanent residency or citizenship is not required, but a social security number is necessary in order to obtain the public security clearance.
Available Subjects:
Mitigate trauma-induced multi-organ injury with focus on acute kidney and lung injures, using cell culture, murine and porcine models.
Eligibility criteria:
- Applicants should be recently graduated with a PhD or MD degree with experience in in vivo studies of organ injury with physiological, molecular, and immunological techniques. Project details include examining the effects of hemorrhagic shock and hemostatic techniques (e.g., tourniquets) and sepsis with readouts to include measuring transcutaneous GFR, immunoblotting, qPCR, gas exchange, coagulation abnormality and flow cytometry. Passion for medical science and self-motivation as evidenced by a strong record of publications are essential. Salary and fringe benefits will be commensurate with experience.
