NYU is a world-renowned comprehensive research university, ranked 39th in the 2022 QS World University Rankings, 24th in the 2022 THE World University Rankings, 25th in the 2022 ARWU Academic Rankings of World Universities, and 25th in the 2022 U.S. News & World Report Best Colleges in America. NYU faculty and alumni have produced 35 Nobel laureates, five Fields Medalists, and eight Turing Award winners. NYU’s College of Engineering was one of the nation’s first engineering schools, with a strong academic heritage that has played a major role in the development of many of the key engineering areas of the Third Industrial Revolution, such as wireless communications, integrated circuits, polymeric materials, genetic technologies, aerospace, and more. With the strong support and development of renewable energy and smart grid technologies in New York State in recent years, NYU has a wealth of industry resources and is uniquely positioned for growth in the electric power industry.
Located in the heart of New York City, NYU enjoys the academic, technological, employment, and cultural resources of a world-class metropolis. The New York metropolitan area is home to a large number of technology companies and research institutions, and the high flow of information and talent creates a wealth of academic exchange and employment opportunities. The New York metropolitan area is also a vibrant, world-class cultural, arts, sports, entertainment and culinary capital with a rich and diverse physical and spiritual life.
Dr Yichang Lin received his bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Tsinghua University in 2012, his master’s degree in electrical engineering from Tsinghua University in 2014, and his Ph.D. in electrical engineering from Northeastern University in 2018. He received his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Northeastern University in 2018. Dr Lin studied under Professor Ali Abur, an internationally renowned expert in power systems and a member of the American Academy of Engineering, and received the Outstanding Graduate Student Research Award from Northeastern University. I-Chang Lin has been an assistant professor at the University of Massachusetts Lowell since September 2018, and will be an assistant professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at New York University from September 2023. He is currently co-chair of the IEEE PES Power System State Estimation Standard Calculus Working Group, secretary of the IEEE PES Distribution Grid Operation Planning Committee, and has been invited as a session chair and technical committee member of several international academic conferences. In 2022, he received the NSF CAREER Award, the highest honorary award given by NSF to young scientists.
Prof Yichang Lin’s research team currently has six graduate students and one postdoctoral fellow, and has led and participated in a number of NSF, DOE, and national laboratory research projects. The laboratory is equipped with the OPAL-RT real-time power system simulation platform, which uses real operational data from North American power systems to validate the innovative theories and methods proposed. The research team has strong collaborative relationships with many universities, national laboratories, and industries across the United States, and has interdisciplinary collaborations with many fields such as communication networks, information security, machine learning, and statistical analysis, with a wide range of career and educational opportunities.
