Scholarship Description:
The Queensland Institute of Medical Research (QIMR Berghofer) in Brisbane, Australia, is a leading translational research institute. It collaborates with the University of Queensland (UQ) to train and recruit PhD students in fields such as cancer, infectious diseases, and mental health. Queensland is notable for its immunology research, being the birthplace of the cervical cancer vaccine.
QIMR features a world-class immunobiology platform and co-founded the Queensland Immunology Research Centre (QIRC) with UQ, implementing a joint PhD program in immunology.
Associate Professor Jiajie Hou leads the Post-treatment Cancer Immunobiology group at QIMR and is looking to enroll two PhD students in immunology starting January 2026.
A/Prof. Hou has worked at prestigious cancer centers, focusing on tumor immunobiology and immunotherapy. He has published extensively in top journals, exploring the biological mechanisms of therapy-induced immune responses and developing innovative combined immunotherapy strategies.
UQ’s Professor Di Yu, a leader in T cell biology and head of the Ian Frazer Children’s Immunotherapy Research Centre, also supports this initiative. He has published over 100 papers in renowned journals and received several international awards.

Eligibility criteria:
- Recent graduates expected to obtain a Master’s degree in Biomedical Sciences.
- Proficient in mouse model techniques and skilled in immunology or cell and molecular biology lab methods.
- Published relevant SCI papers as the primary author and presented at conferences.
- Undergraduate GPA of at least 3.2/4.0.
- English proficiency: IELTS minimum 6.5 (no section below 6) or TOEFL minimum 87 (writing at least 21, other sections at least 19).
