Scholarship Description:
Rui lab investigates obesity, type 2 diabetes, and fatty liver disease. We have 3 subgroups focusing on white and brown fat, liver, and hypothalamic neural circuits, respectively. We explore novel inflammatory pathways in obesity and metabolic disease. At the molecular level, we investigate insulin resistance, leptin resistance, epigenetic reprogramming, and epitranscriptomicreprogramming (RNA modifications, RNA binding proteins, and RNA fate) in adipocytes, hepatocytes, and hypothalamic neurons in health, obesity, and metabolic disease. Conditional knockout miceand AAV-mediated gene transfer are routinely used to model human diseases and test hypotheses in vivo. Various state-of-the-art techniques and methods are used to interrogate underlyingmechanisms.
