Scholarship Description:
Dr. Haonan Ling has been an assistant professor in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at the University of Central Florida since January 2025. He graduated from UCLA with a bachelor’s degree in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering and a PhD in Mechanical Engineering. His research intersects materials science, applied physics, and optics/photonics. He has received the 2024 Dimitris N. Chorafas Foundation Prize and the 2023 UCLA Dissertation Year Fellowship. He collaborates with research groups from top institutions, including UC Berkeley, Emory University, the University of Pennsylvania, the University of Oklahoma, the University of Washington (Seattle), and Auburn University.

Available Subjects:
- Design, fabrication, and characterization of electronic and photonic devices based on novel material systems, including low-dimensional materials, phase change materials, and superlattice structures.
- Understanding energy transfer mechanisms in emerging material platforms through spectroscopic and microscopic techniques.
Eligibility criteria:
- Interest in research, self-motivated, enjoys life, and easy to get along with. Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Applied Physics, Materials Science, or related fields. Basic programming (Python, MATLAB, etc.) and data processing skills. Strong English writing and speaking skills. TOEFL score of 80 or above, or IELTS score of 6.5 or above. Currently studying at an overseas university. Full PhD scholarships available, with the advisor having the authority to admit students.
