Scholarship Description:
These positions will receive competitive stipends and benefits (health insurance, university housing, etc). We can recruit PhD students in the NYUGSOM Biomedical Imaging & Technology PhD Training Program, and other engineering departments at NYU Tandon School of Engineering.
The Cai lab build novel nanophotonic technologies and meta-optics for imaging and sensing, with biomedicalapplications for both basic research and health care. Our research work has been published in Nature Materials, Nature Nanotechnology, Nature Protocols, Advanced Materials, ACS Nano, npj computational materials, etc. Dr. Cai has received multiple grants and awards, including arecent “Maximizing Investigators’ Research Award” (MIRA, R35, $ 2 Million) from National Institutes of Health (NIH)/National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS).

Eligibility criteria:
- Candidates must have a PhD in engineering (electrical, mechanical, etc), optics, physics, materials science or other related fields, with experience in optical design, simulation and experiments. Research experience in one or more of the following fields is highly encouraged: optical metasurfaces (visible or IR), hyperbolic metamaterials,micro-optics and miniaturized optical systems, metasurface-enhanced spectroscopy, metasurfaceresonance engineering, inverse design, etc. We seek candidates who are strongly motivated, open-minded, and capable of both independent and collaborative research work. Demonstrated ingenuity, productivity, communication and writing skills, and an excellent record of publications is preferred.
