The acceptance rate for the Class of 2020 is 9% (32,376 applicants). Distinguished alumni include two US Vice Presidents and seven Nobel Laureates. The College of Humanities and Sciences, which houses the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences, is the core and oldest college at Vanderbilt. Meng Lin is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences at Vanderbilt University, with research interests in global change ecology. His research has been published in Science, PNAS, PNAS NEXUS, GCB, AFM and other international journals.

He has been awarded the Grand Prize of the Global Young Scientist Award 2021 by Science, the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) and SciLifeLab, the Global Green Elite Award 2022 by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), the NASA Earth and Space Technology Fellowship, the Ecological Society of America (ESA) Ton Damman Award, the American Geophysical Union (AGU) Ecohydrology Award in Hydrology, and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) Masters Scholarship.

He was a member of the AGU Section Committee on Global Environmental Change, a member of the FLUXNET Youth Committee, and Chair of Human Ecology at the Ecological Society of America.
