Scholarship Description:

The group of Jiang Chang at the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center and Research Institute, Department of Molecular Oncology is looking for postdoctoral fellows and students. The lab focuses on redox regulation and metabolic regulation of tumour cells. Research interests include: (1) antioxidant enzyme function; (2) mitochondrial function; (3) reactive oxygen species regulation. The laboratory collaborates closely with other groups/directions in the Centre and also communicates closely with the field of computational biology to provide a full range of academic extension opportunities.

Dr Chang Jiang graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a degree in bioengineering. He joined Brigham and Women’s Hospital/Harvard Medical School as a postdoctoral fellow in EBV infection and cancer development. He joined the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center and Research Institute as a postdoctoral fellow in tumour metabolism and will soon join the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center and Research Institute as an assistant professor. Dr Chang Jiang has published several papers as first or corresponding author in Molecular Cell, Redox Biology, Cell Reports, mBio, British Journal of Cancer, etc. He is currently the principal investigator of an NIH/NCI research project.

Lee Moffitt Cancer Center & Research Institute is a National Cancer Center-designated comprehensive cancer centre located in Tampa, Florida, USA, and is one of the largest cancer research centres in the southern United States. Tampa is a seaport city on the west coast of the Florida peninsula and is part of Hillsborough County. It is located at the mouth of Hillsborough River and is bordered by Tampa Bay and the Gulf of Mexico. Tampa is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the United States. The city offers a wide range of commercial, cultural and entertainment facilities and a low cost of living.

Eligibility criteria:

The laboratory is looking for two post-docs with a background in biology, with the following requirements:

  1. Solid skills and knowledge in molecular and cell biology. For example, molecular cloning, PCR, WB, CRISPR, cell culture, etc.
  2. First authorship of publications in cancer related areas.
  3. Experience with mouse models and background in tumour metabolism is preferred.
  4. Proactive, conscientious, friendly and cooperative.
  5. Good communication skills in English.

Visiting student position

The laboratory is looking for visiting students with a background in biology who meet the following requirements

  1. a strong interest in molecular biology and tumour metabolism and a willingness to learn new techniques
  2. be proactive in communicating with their supervisors to further the progress of their projects
  3. be proactive, conscientious, friendly and cooperative.
