Available Subjects:
- Postdoctoral abstract/title: Postdoctoral position in pre-pandemic influenza A virus virology (0.8 – 1.0 FTE)
Do you want to contribute to our understanding of what determines the likelihood of a pandemic? Are you looking for a postdoctoral position? We have an opening for a postdoctoral position in the Department of Virology at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Utrecht University, where you will work on a project with our PI Dr. Xander de Haan and our American partners. Influenza A virus (IAV) pandemics occur every 10-40 years, when animal viruses are transmitted to humans. These jumps are limited by the species barrier, which requires animal viruses to acquire adaptive properties in order to replicate effectively in humans. One of the factors thought to play a key role in the species barrier is the dynamic interaction of viral particles with receptors that control cell attachment and mucosal translocation.

- Postdoctoral Fellowship Position Summary/Title: Postdoctoral position in the EU project “BioSecure” (0.7 – 1.0 FTE)
Outbreaks of legally infectious diseases such as avian influenza in poultry and African swine fever in pigs, as well as the continued threat of zoonotic infections such as Salmonella and Campylobacter, underline the importance of biosecurity measures in animal husbandry to minimise the risk of entry of infectious microorganisms, establishment or transmission within and between farms and to humans. We are looking for a PhD candidate or post-doc who would like to contribute to enhanced and cost-effective biosecurity measures and tools in livestock production, particularly in pig and poultry farming. Do you share our ambition to help reduce animal disease and public health risks? Do you have a strong affinity for the health of farm animals? welfare and sustainability? Are you willing to work in a multidisciplinary international team of 19 European partners and work closely with knowledge institutions and stakeholders to achieve this goal? If the answer to these questions is yes, please check out the positions we have available at Utrecht University for the Horizon Europe-funded “BioSecure” project.
