Scholarship Description:
The Chen lab studies stress responses and protein quality control in the tumour immune microenvironment, immunotherapy and treatment resistance. We were among the first to establish the molecular link between the Unfolded Protein Response, oncogenesis and therapy resistance. Our highly translational studies have led to the first-in-human clinical trial of an inhibitor of the ER stress sensor IRE1, which received FDA Fast Track designation. Our long-term goals are to elucidate the role and mechanisms of stress responses in cancer progression, anti-tumour immunity and therapy resistance, and to develop mechanism-based novel therapies to improve immunosurveillance, overcome therapy resistance and transform cancer into a manageable chronic disease. The highly interdisciplinary and collaborative environment of the Chen laboratory provides unique career development opportunities for postdoctoral fellows.
