Recruitment of fully funded PhD students at Stevens Institute of Technology

Scholarship: Fully funded
Degree: Ph.D
Nationality: International Students
Location: USA
Application deadlines: Autumn 23 or Spring 24

Scholarship Description:

Dr Yu Gan’s team in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Stevens Institute of Technology (USA) is recruiting PhD students for admission in Autumn 2023 or Spring 2024 with full scholarships (no tuition + living allowance). The team’s research focuses on applications of machine learning, computational vision, and artificial intelligence to biomedical imaging, including but not limited to super-resolution reconstruction, image segmentation, and target detection algorithms for cardiovascular imaging, wearable sensor imaging, microwave imaging, and conjugate microscopy imaging of cells and molecules. The lab is currently well funded with grants from the NIH, NSF, USDA, NJHF, corporate funding, and nearby medical schools, and has collaborations with Columbia University, Imperial College of Science and Technology, German Cancer Center, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, University of California, Rutgers University, Icahn School of Medicine, University of Alabama Hospital, and others. Rutgers University, Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, and the University of Alabama Hospital. The laboratory also has extensive collaborations with biotechnology companies in New York and New Jersey, as well as pharmaceutical and electronics companies.

Dr Yu Gan received his Ph.D. in electrical engineering from Columbia University in 2017, and then stayed on as a postdoctoral researcher. He was an assistant professor at the University of Alabama from 2018 to 2021, and an assistant professor at Stevens Institute of Technology since January 2022.He received an Early Career Research Award (CAREER) from NSF in 2023. His research interests include machine learning, computer vision, and applications of artificial intelligence to biomedical imaging. His lab has published more than 50 journal and conference papers in the areas of biology, imaging, and information. Details of the labs can be found at https://sites.google.com/view/yuganwebsite.

Stevens Institute of Technology has a long history, having been founded in 1870 as one of the first polytechnics in the United States. It is consistently ranked among the top 60-80 schools in the country, and its professors and scholars are renowned in the fields of science and management, having produced outstanding talents such as Nobel laureate in physics Fred Ryan, Nobel laureate in chemistry Irving Langmuir, and the father of modern management Frederick Taylor, etc. [1]. The location is adjacent to Manhattan Island, New York, one of the best located universities in the country [2], 10 minutes by subway to Lower New York and 20 minutes to Midtown New York, easy to live in, and security is very good. The lab is located in McLean Hall on the Hudson River, across from the Empire State Building. A number of graduate and undergraduate students are currently working at the intersection of biomedical science and artificial intelligence, and Stevens students are well positioned for internships at research institutes or companies after graduation. They are surrounded by Columbia University, Princeton University and New York University, as well as companies such as Brookhaven National Lab, Siemens, IBM and Philips, Wall Street investment banks and New Jersey’s major pharmaceutical companies. According to U.S. News & World Report, Stevens graduates from various colleges and universities consistently rank in the top ten in the country for starting salaries[3].
