Scholarship Description:
Dr Ajani, Professor of GI Medical Oncology, MD Anderson Cancer Center, Chair of the NCCN Guidelines for Gastroesophageal Cancer, focuses on translational research in peritoneal metastasis of gastric cancer. He has published more than 200 articles in international journals including Nature Reviews, Nature reviews Clinical Oncology, JAMA, Nature Medicine, Cancer Cell, Journal of Clinical Oncology, Gut and Gastroenterology. The laboratory is located in MD Anderson Cancer Center’s state-of-the-art Mitchell Basic Sciences Research Building, at the heart of MD Anderson Cancer Center and the Texas Medical Center TMC. The laboratory is fully equipped with all the necessary research equipment and the overall laboratory conditions are excellent.
Dr Ajani’s team has extensively used single-cell sequencing in conjunction with other multi-omics approaches to systematically analyse changes in the tumour microenvironment in mouse models. These studies are helping to unravel the complex interactions between cancer cells-fibroblasts-immune cells in the tumour microenvironment, provide a theoretical basis for further exploration of novel therapeutic strategies for peritoneal metastasis of gastric cancer, and facilitate the screening of new therapeutic targets and markers, providing a solid foundation for the direction of the new theme.

Eligibility criteria:
- Preference will be given to applicants with experience in cell/molecular biology, cancer biology, immunology and experimental mice. Postdoctoral fellows are paid at NIH rates (starting salary of $54,835 per year and increasing over time). Postdocs are covered by the university’s standard health insurance programme and may apply for UT System housing.
