Scholarship: Fully-funded
Degree: PhD or MD
Nationality: International Students
Location: USA
Application deadlines: Open immediately and will continue until the positions are filled.
Scholarship Description:
The projects are funded by 5-year NIH R01, which involve the study of voltage-gated sodium channel Nav1.2, recently discovered as a top gene mutated in neurodevelopmental disorders (e.g., autism and epilepsy). We work on both mouse models and human induced Pluripotent Stem Cells (iPSCs) derived neuron, microglia, and brain organoids models. We use EEG recording, high-density in vivo Neuropixels recording, optogenetics, and DREADD, cultured cells and brain slice patch-clamp recordings, RNA-sequencing, as well as a variety of imaging technologies.
Available Subjects:
Biology, neuroscience, pharmacology or a related field.
Eligibility criteria:
While ideal candidates should have expertise in one of the following areas, we also appreciate candidates in other fields who are committed to learning new skills and want to bring their unique expertise to study epilepsy and autism in a multidisciplinary environment.
- Animal study with EEG or other in vivo recording system (e.g., Plexon, NeuroNexus, or silicon probes), and familiar with data analysis using MATLAB or python
- Molecular and cellular biology including the culture and study of iPSCs-derived neurons and organoids
- Patch-clamp recording of brain slices or cultured neurons
- Bulk, single-cell RNAseq or other multi-omics study of neurons and brain tissues.
- neural circuits, development, and plasticity
Application Procedure:
o apply, please send a current C.V. and statement of research interests to Dr. Yang Yang (yangyang@purdue.edu). Review of applications will continue until the positions are filled.
