The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering is looking for two PhD students with full awards in Robotics at Drexel University

Scholarship: Fully-funded
Degree: BS, MS
Nationality: International Students
Location: USA
Application deadlines: Fall 2022 or Spring 2023

Scholarship Description:

Dr. Lifeng Zhou graduated from the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) at Virginia Tech in 2020 and joined the GRASP lab at the University of Pennsylvania as a postdoctoral fellow with Dr. Vijay Kumar, and will join the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Drexel University as an Assistant Professor in Fall 2022. Dr. Zhou works on designing robust and reliable cooperative strategies for the safety and trustworthiness of multi-robot and autonomous systems in failure-prone, hostile, and uncertain environments. Applications include multi-robot environmental monitoring, search and rescue, surveillance and reconnaissance, and target tracking. Dr. Zhou has independently supervised several undergraduate students during his PhD and postdoctoral studies, and has published 25 academic papers, mostly in IEEE Transactions on Robotics (T-RO), Robotics: Science and Systems (RSS), Workshop Systems (RSS), Workshop on Algorithmic Foundations of Robotics (WAFR), IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation (ICRA), IEEE/RSJ International Conference on Intelligent Robots and Systems (IROS), and many other top international robotics journals and conferences, and has long-standing, close collaborations with robotics scholars and their research teams at MIT, UPenn, Cambridge, USC, UMich, GaTech, UMD, VT. The laboratory is in the process of being established and will build up a new research centre. The lab is in the planning stages of building a rich hardware and robotics platform, including the NVIDIA DGX Station, a desktop AI supercomputer, Optitrack/Vicon, Intel Falcon 8+, Qualcomm AI Drone, Crazyflie 2.0, Terrestrial Turtlebot (indoor), Jacal/Husky (outdoor), etc. In addition, each student will be assigned a high-performance laptop or desktop computer (System76 workstation/Lambda GPU workstation). More information can be found on the individual websites: https://lfzhou917.github.io/.

 Available Subjects:

Multi-robot systems, robotics algorithms, machine learning, convex/combinatorial optimization, game theory, motion planning, simultaneous localization and mapping, model predictive control, etc.

Eligibility criteria:

The scholarship will cover the student’s tuition and stipend during the Ph.D. program. The preferred start term is Fall 2022 or Spring 2023.
