Scholarship: Full scholarship (Salary will be strictly in line with NIH standards.)
Degree: PhD, MD
Nationality: International Students
Location: USA
Application deadlines: Open
Scholarship Description:
Research in Dr Deqiang Li’s laboratory focuses on understanding the mechanisms of cardiovascular development, disease and regeneration. The laboratory is working to identify epigenetic regulation and novel signalling pathways that regulate myocardial development or control cardiomyocyte differentiation and maturation using in vitro and in vivo approaches. Cellular and mouse model systems are used in specific research projects, including induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) and conditional gene knockouts. Various cutting-edge biomedical technologies have also been employed, including CRISPR/Cas9 genome editing, AAV, single-cell RNA-Seq and ChIP-Seq, confocal microscopy, multicolour flow sorting, surgical construction of disease models, ultrasound and telemetry to measure cardiovascular function in mice. For more details, see our recent papers in JCI (PMID:29337306) and Circ Res (PMID:35722872).
The Ohio State University is ranked 32nd in U.S. News and World Report’s 2021 “Best Medical Schools: Primary Care’ and 30th in ‘Best Medical Schools: Scientific Research”. The affiliated National Children’s Hospital (NCH) is nationally ranked in all 10 pediatric specialties by U.S. News and World Report, and was ranked the 8th best children’s hospital in the U.S. for 2020-2021 by U.S. In addition, NCH has an outstanding group of scientists in cardiovascular research, particularly in cardiovascular cell signalling, development and regeneration. NCH values diversity and encourages candidates from diverse backgrounds to apply and participate in a variety of research projects.
