Scholarship Description:
The Liu Shi research group at the NUS Department of Pharmacy focuses on GPCR pharmacological chemistry, peptide bioorganic chemistry, biocatalysis, and synthetic biology. Students with backgrounds in chemistry, biology, or pharmacy who are interested in the group’s research are welcome to reach out.
Dr. Liu Shi completed his undergraduate degree at Nankai University and earned his PhD in chemistry from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He joined the National University of Singapore in July 2023 as an assistant professor and PhD supervisor. He has published several papers in top journals like Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci. U.S.A and J. Am. Chem. Soc, and holds one U.S. patent.

Available Subjects:
- Explore the working mechanisms of novel peptide biosynthetic enzymes and their applications in synthetic biology.
- Research on synthetic methodologies for novel peptide topologies and their application in constructing functional peptide libraries.
- Focus on GPCRs (or other protein targets) related to metabolic diseases and cancer to develop new molecular probes and lead compounds.
- Establish a systematic receptor de-orphaning platform for orphan GPCRs with significant biological and pharmaceutical value.
Eligibility criteria:
- Recent PhD graduates or graduates with no more than one year since graduation in fields such as chemical biology, synthetic biology, medicinal chemistry, or organic synthesis.
- First author on SCI publications, capable of conducting independent research, with strong English communication skills (listening, speaking, reading, and writing).
- Strong skills in experimental planning and research communication.
- High emphasis on the accuracy and reproducibility of experimental data.
