Scholarship Description:
As the top two of the world’s premier cancer centers, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center is committed to exceptional patient care, leading-edge research, and superb educational programs. Dr. Kolesnick is a Professor in the Laboratory of Signal Transduction at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, New York. He is an authority on cell signalling and he has played a principal role in the discovery of the “sphingomyelin signal transduction pathway”, which appears to be crucial in the induction of apoptosis. Our laboratory focuses on the role of sphingolipid signaling as a stress response. In this pathway, generation of the second messenger ceramide in response to diverse environmental and pharmacologic stresses (heat, ionizing radiation, ultraviolet light, chemotherapeutic agents, oxidative challenges, etc.) occurs either by degradation of sphingomyelin or by de novo synthesis. The quality and quantity of the ceramide response, in combination with other signals, determines whether adaptation or apoptosis ensues. Activating anti-tumor immunity via modulating immune checkpoint proteins, or simultaneous targeting of radioation-resistent genes synergizing with radiotherapy, the tumor microenvironment aremanipulated to overcome immune evasion and mitigate tumor deterioration. In parallel, our research is also focus on cancer therapy, especially radiotherapy and immunotherapy by profiling novel anti-tumor drug candidates through CRISPR-screen, 10×single cell sequencing and in –vivo genetics validation combined with solid tumor mouse model.
We are seeking highly-motivated, interest-driven and creative-thinking postdoc candidates to join our research term. Successful candidates will be directly mentored byDr.Kolesnick (Professor at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center), with support from other members in our labs. Successful candidates will take charge of designing research projects, conducting experiments, integratingdata and biological consequence. The candidates will also be fully encouraged to propose new projects, and to apply for fellowship.
Available Subjects:
- Biological research, particularly oncology, immunology, cell biology and bioinformatics
Eligibility criteria:
- Individuals who holds Ph.D. (not necessary for technician application) with research backgrounds in biological research, particularly oncology, immunology, cell biology and bioinformatics are encouraged to apply.
- Good written and verbal communication skills are required to publish paper and perform presentations at official conferences.
- The positions are open until filled and applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis.
Application Procedure:
Please send the CV to WenbinChen(wenbinbwh@gmail.com), using the subject Postdoc Application-MSKCC. Good candidates will be introduced to Dr. Kolesnick and proceed interview.
