Scholarship Description:

The research focuses mainly on the regulatory role of the peripheral nervous system in peripheral tissues (such as myocardium and skeletal muscle) in pathophysiological conditions including heart failure, diabetes, and ischemia-reperfusion injury, supported by NIH funding. The successful applicant will be expected to master electrophysiological techniques (including patch clamp) and intricate surgical procedures, especially surgical coronary artery ligation-induced heart failure, in vivo local microinjection into peripheral ganglia, and implantation of optogenetic probe for optogenetic stimulation and radiotelemeters for the ECG and blood pressure recording. He/she will be involved in the design of experimental protocols; collection, analysis and interpretation of data; preparation of oral and written scientific reports, such as presentation of results at local, state, and national meetings; composition of scientific manuscripts for submission to journals and writing grant applications; and interdepartmental seminars, journal clubs and local and national scientific societies.
