Scholarship Description:
The University of Virginia is a public university ranked third in the United States by US News. It was founded by the Founding Father Jefferson. Located in the small city of Charlottesville, the cost of living is relatively low compared to the big city. It is located in a small town, Charlottesville, with a relatively low cost of living compared to a large city. On the other hand, it is not far from the capital city of Washington, D.C., which is convenient for shopping and cultural activities (e.g., free national museums, etc.).
The Department of Molecular Physiology and Biophysics at the University of Virginia is looking for two postdocs. The lab PI (Dr. Huiwang Ai) has recently received a $5.3M research grant from NIH and intends to recruit 2 postdocs in addition to the existing 6 postdocs and 4 PhD students. Eligibility criteria:
- We would like to hire a PhD to design and characterize genetically encoded biosensors. This work will involve directed evolution and fluorescence/bioluminescence analysis and imaging. Previous experience in plasmid construction, molecular cloning, and mammalian cell culture is required.
- We also want to hire a postdoctoral fellow as part of a team to apply genetically encoded biosensors to the study of the role of oxidative stress in diabetes, neurotransmission and Alzheimer’s disease.
