Scholarship Description:
McGill Nanofactory, led by Prof. Cao, aims to offer advanced materials-based solutions to challenges in everyday life by developing scalable functional material systems and production processes. At the intersection of nanotechnology, materials science, mechanics, and manufacturing, the group is developing a closed-loop research program around advanced materials, covering synthesis, characterizations, device design, and production. Areas of specialty include micro/nanoscale mechanical characterizations, development of scalable assembly processes of advanced structures, and production of advanced materials-based devices and structures.

Eligibility criteria:
Three Ph.D. positions for starting in Jan. 2022
- Scalable nanomanufacturing of two-dimensional electronics
Candidates should have expertise in at least one of the following areas:
2D materials, solid mechanics, MEMS design and fabrication, 2D/3D printing technology
- Development of novel additive manufacturing techniques
Candidates should have expertise in at least one of the following areas:
3D printing, electrochemistry, machine design, polymer composites, metallurgy
- Mechano-electro-chemical studies of solid-state batteries
Candidates should have expertise in at least one of the following areas:
electrochemistry, AFM, solid mechanics, materials science
