Scholarship Description:
Dr. Zhong made significant contributions to the innate immunity field by establishing mitochondria as the “command center” for innate immune activation and regulation (Nature. 2018 Aug;560(7717):198-203; Cell. 2016 Feb 25;164(5):896-910).
Dr. Zhong’s lab is now investigating how mitochondria sense stress signals, and how they “message” other cellular organelles and nucleus to generate a coordinatedand tightly controlled immune response, whose ultimately goal is to eliminate inflammatory insults and restore homeostasis.
Available Subjects:
Immunology, cell biology, biochemistry, liver biology and/or cancer research.
Eligibility criteria:
Potential candidates with strong research motivation should have a Ph.D. or M.D/Ph.D degree in a related biomedical field. Salaries will be paid at the current NIH scale with free health insurance and other UTSW employee benefits.
