The University of Macau (UM) is a public international university established in 1981. It features a multicultural environment, a holistic education system integrating colleges and residential colleges, and an internationalized educational model. Dr. Iek Man Lei, an Assistant Professor in the Department of Electromechanical Engineering, has an interdisciplinary research background in additive manufacturing, polymer materials, hydrogel materials, and biomedical engineering. He earned a combined Bachelor’s and Master’s degree with first-class honors from Imperial College London in 2016 and completed his PhD at the University of Cambridge in 2022. His research focuses on additive manufacturing of soft materials, hydrogel materials, and flexible biomimetic models. He has received several awards, including the Cambridge Society for the Application of Research’s Outstanding PhD Award and the International Society for Biofabrication’s Outstanding PhD Award. He was also selected as a participant in the 2022 Global Young Scientists Summit.
Dr. Lei’s research group fosters a strong academic environment that encourages discussion and innovation, aiming to develop independent researchers and create a high-level academic atmosphere. The PI has extensive overseas experience and maintains close collaborations with the research group at Cambridge.

Eligibility criteria:
- A PhD degree from a university ranked in the top 200 globally or from a 985 or 211 university. Applicants who expect to obtain their PhD within six months after the application deadline (i.e., by August 2025) will be considered.
- A PhD obtained within the last two years.
- A relevant background in Electronic Engineering, Polymer Materials, Mechanics, or Mechanical Engineering.
- Preference will be given to those with research experience in flexible electronic devices, 3D printing, hydrogels, soft materials, structural mechanics, or polymer materials.
- Good proficiency in English (listening, speaking, reading, and writing).
- Interest and enthusiasm for scientific research, proactive work ethic, and a rigorous research attitude.
