Scholarship Description:
The Biosensing and Biomarkers Group at the University of South Carolina is part of the Departments of Chemical Engineering and Biomedical Engineering, and was established in 2018 under the leadership of Professor Chang Liu.
The group is supported by NIH and NSF, with stable funding, excellent compensation, and a relaxed and active academic atmosphere, with papers published every year in top general or specialized journals (e.g., Nature Communications, Biosensors and Bioelectronics, ACS Sensors, etc.). The University of South Carolina has a long history and a strong academic atmosphere. In the US News National University Rankings, the College of Engineering Graduate Program is ranked 102, the Department of Chemical Engineering is ranked 60, and the Department of Biomedical Engineering is ranked 89. In the overall public university rankings, the University of South Carolina is ranked 53rd in the nation. Graduates of the Department of Chemical Engineering and the Department of Biomedical Engineering are highly regarded by employers and are often hired by well-known companies (Intel, Medtronic, etc.) and universities (Villanova, Buffalo, etc.). Columbia, where the school is located, is the safest city in South Carolina and one of the safest cities in the United States.

Postdoc
- -Ph.D. in microfluidics, nanopores, clinical testing, or electronic device development (one of these fields is acceptable) is preferred.
- -Can communicate in English on a daily basis and write scientific papers in English.
- -A passion for research, drive, responsibility and teamwork.
Doctoral Candidates
- -Has received or will receive in the near future a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree related to the research direction of this research group.
- -This is an interdisciplinary group, and we welcome applications from students with various related backgrounds, regardless of their specific majors.

Eligibility criteria:
- The successful candidate will have a solid background in cellular/molecular biology and developmental biology. Experience in neurobiology, disease mouse models, mouse behavioral analysis, and/or high-throughput sequencing experiments and bioinformatics analyses are a plus. Candidates must hold or anticipate having a PhD, MD, or PhD/MD degree prior to the starting date (August 2023 – December 2023).
