Scholarship Description:
Dr Hongchao Guo is an Assistant Professor at the University of Utah (USA) and a graduate of Nankai University. He worked as a postdoctoral fellow in the laboratory of Dr Joseph C. Wu at the Cardiovascular Research Institute of Stanford University, focusing on the pathogenesis of genes and environmental factors in cardiovascular disease. In 2021, he worked as a lecturer at Stanford University. In 2023, he joined the University of Utah School of Medicine, where he established an independent research group dedicated to elucidating the genetic mechanisms of cardiovascular disease. In 2023, he joined the University of Utah School of Medicine and established an independent research group dedicated to unravelling the genetic mechanisms of cardiovascular disease. He is currently the first or co-first author of publications in Cell, Science Translational Medicine, Developmental Cell and Stem Cell Reports, among others. His innovative research has been supported by the National Institutes of Health Career Development Fund (NIH K99). NIH Career Development Fund (NIH K99).

Available Subjects:
- (1) To study the pathogenicity of variants of uncertain significance in monogenic inherited cardiovascular diseases (e.g. cardiac hypertrophy);
- (2) To study the pathogenicity of variants in polygenic inherited cardiovascular diseases (e.g. coronary artery disease);
- (3) To study genetic mechanisms in congenital heart disease;
- (4) To explore the role of endogenous retroviral elements in heart development and disease.
Eligibility criteria:
- Experienced in cell biology, biochemistry and molecular biology experiments; conscientious and responsible, with the ability to innovate and complete the project independently; published papers in national and international high-level academic journals as lead author in the field.
