Scholarship: Fully-funed
Degree: PhD
Nationality: International Students
Location: USA
Application deadlines: Open

Scholarship Description:

A postdoctoral research position in super-resolution fluorescence bioimaging is available in the laboratory of Professor Ruobo Zhou in the Departments of Chemistry and Bioengineering and the Huck Institutes of the Life Sciences at The Pennsylvania State University.

The successful candidate will work in a highly interdisciplinary environment on synthetic chemistry for the development of fluorescent probes for super-resolution fluorescence imaging of biological systems with relevance to human disease. The PI has a strong publication record with 8 publications in Science, Nature and Cell. The full publication list of the PI is available at https://scholar.google.com/citations?user=-HscT38AAAAJ&hl=en and more information about the PI and the laboratory is available at https://science.psu.edu/chem/people/rkz5110.

 Available Subjects:

  •  Chemistry, Chemical Biology, Biophysics or Pharmaceutical/Medicinal Chemistry

Eligibility criteria:

  • Strong synthetic skills are required. The candidate should have experiences with multi-step synthesis of natural products, fluorescent probes, small-molecule inhibitors, or PROTAC degraders.
  • Familiar with simulation of ligand-protein interactions (Pymol, VMD, Maestro, etc.).
  • One or more publications as the first author.
  • Additional competency-enhancing skills (not required but will be a plus): fluorescence microscopy, cell culture, cloning, protein purification, binding affinity measurement (ITC, SPR, etc.), quantitative image analysis, and/or computer programming (Matlab, Python, or similar). Knowledge in cell biology, neurobiology, immunology, cancer biology, or RNA biology.

Application Procedure:

Interested and qualified candidates are required to apply electronically, including a cover letter describing your background, training and research interests, as well as a curriculum vitae including a list of publications. Applications should be sent to ruobo.zhou_at_psu.edu. After reviewing these initial applications, suitable candidates will be contacted by email to request letters of reference. This is a fixed-term appointment, funded for a period of one year from the date of hire, with the possibility of re-funding.
