Florida State University has several opportunities for PhD students and postdoctoral fellows

Scholarship: Fully-funded
Degree: B.S./M.S./Ph.D
Nationality: International Students
Location: USA
Application deadlines: Spring/summer 2024

Scholarship Description:

The Zeng Lab applies AI and robotic experimentation to the design of materials and chemical processes for energy and environmental applications. We aim to design and develop novel materials with superior electrochemical and catalytic performance for energy technologies such as batteries, fuel cells and more. Our research extends to the development of sustainable chemical processes that enable the extraction of critical metals from natural and recycled resources. Dr Yan Zeng is an incoming Assistant Professor at Florida State University starting in January 2024. Dr Zeng is currently a Principal Investigator (PI) at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL), where she leads a team working on AI and robotic autonomous labs and developing energy storage materials. She was a postdoctoral researcher with Prof. Gerbrand Ceder at LBNL and UC Berkeley after receiving her Ph.D. from McGill University with Prof. George P. Demopoulos. Dr Zeng has published papers in Science (first author), Nature (corresponding author), Nature Communications (corresponding author), Nature Materials, Nature Synthesis, and other high-impact journals.

 Available Subjects:

  • 1.Developing energy storage materials.
  • 2.Self-driving materials research laboratory.
  • 3.Battery recycling and critical metal extraction.

Eligibility criteria:

  • FSU is listed as one of Oak Ridge National Lab’s eight core university partners.Located in Tallahassee, Florida’s capital city, FSU offers a unique blend of a vibrant college town atmosphere and the amenities of a state capital.Tallahassee has a much more affordable cost of living than most major U.S. cities, pleasant year-round weather, and a thriving arts and cultural scene.

Application Procedure:

Interested candidates are encouraged to reach out to Dr. Yan Zeng ([email protected]) with a brief introduction of your research experiences, research interests, and a CV.
