Scholarship Description:
The Shenzhen Institute of Big Data (hereinafter referred to as: the Institute) is a basic research institution in Shenzhen established by the Shenzhen Municipal People’s Government with the support of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (Shenzhen), located in the campus of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (Shenzhen) in Longgang District, Shenzhen. The Institute conducts scientific and theoretical research and technical research in three key research areas: the fundamental theory of big data, the new computing system for big data, and the intelligent application technology driven by big data. The current team of the Institute consists of world-renowned data scientists who have extensive experience in information processing, data analysis and industrial collaboration. All team members have overseas study and work experience, and are highly accomplished in areas such as optimisation theory and algorithm design, machine learning, large-scale data processing, and statistical signal processing. Established in July 2020, the Big Data Secure Computing Lab of Shenzhen Institute of Big Data focuses on the security and privacy issues involved in the collection, storage, collation, transmission and use of big data technologies, including the confidentiality, integrity and availability of data and artificial intelligence models, as well as the attributes of robustness, interpretability and fairness, and is committed to ensuring that big data and artificial intelligence technologies are secure, trustworthy and reliable. The lab is headed by Associate Professor Paul Wu of the School of Data Science, The Chinese University of Hong Kong (Shenzhen).

Eligibility criteria:
- graduate from an accredited university or research institution with a Bachelor or Master degree in a field including but not limited to artificial intelligence, information security, applied mathematics, computer science, etc.
- English language requirements (meeting one of the following requirements): an equivalent degree or proof of study in Hong Kong or an English-speaking country; TOEFL (no less than 550 on the written test and 213 on the machine test; no less than 79 on the online test); IELTS (academic category, no less than 6.5).
- proficiency in at least one common programming language, including but not limited to Python, Matlab, C++, Javascript, etc., and good programming habits.
- have some research experience and published papers as first author in CCF A/B academic conferences or journals in the field of artificial intelligence is a plus.
