Scholarship Description:

David Leigh, a member of the Royal Academy of Sciences and Distinguished Professor of East China Normal University, established the Molecular Machines and Functional Materials Research Team at East China Normal University in October 2017 to conduct research on bionic molecular machines and molecular topological materials. The team leader, Dr Liang Zhang, was supported by the 2020 Overseas High-Level Talents Admission Scheme and is currently focusing on research in the area of bionic topology and topological materials.

As a pioneer in the field of molecular topology and molecular machines, Professor Leigh has achieved a number of significant original results in this research area, with 9 publications in Nature, 8 in Science, nearly 15 in Nature Mat/Nano/Chem and nearly 100 in JACS/Angew/PNAS since 2000. In the past three years, the group has published 1 Nature (click to read more), 1 Nature Chemistry (click to read more), 1 Chem (click to read more), 2 JACS, 2 PNAS and 1 Chemical Science with East China Normal University as the first working unit.

In order to strengthen the team, the group is now looking for 1-2 postdocs (starting date between Nov 2021 and Sep 2022) and 1-2 research assistants (preferably to pursue PhD in the future, starting date should be before Sep 2022). Post-docs with excellent performance will be allowed to study and exchange at the University of Manchester in the UK or to stay on through the university’s talent policy; research assistants can be transferred to current PhD students. The new members of the team will mainly be engaged in research on novel topological materials and bionic molecular machines. At the same time, outstanding PhDs and postdocs from home and abroad who have the intention to return to work full-time can be brought in through the Talent Program (Zijiang Youth and Zijiang Outstanding Youth) of East China Normal University, and their titles and specific treatment will be determined on a case-by-case basis. We welcome outstanding young people who are interested in expanding their career in supramolecular chemistry to join our team. This recruitment is permanent!
