Application deadlines:  Open until filled

Scholarship Description:

The laboratory of Dr. Cao Mian in the Neuroscience and Behavioural Disorders (NBD) Program at Duke-National University of Singapore Medical School (Duke-NUS) in Singapore seeks 1-2 postdoctoral fellows with strong enthusiasm and interest in neurodegeneration research, particularly in molecular and cellular mechanisms of Parkinson’s disease (PD).

PD is the second most common neurodegenerative disorder. Genetic studies have recently identified several PD-linked proteins that are involved in endocytic trafficking at the synapse, suggesting impaired synaptic transmission is an early feature of PD. The long-term goal of our laboratory is to elucidate the pathogenic mechanisms of PD and reveal potential therapeutic targets for the treatment of PD. Specifically, we will investigate how the impaired synaptic membrane trafficking results in selective neurodegeneration of dopaminergic neurons in PD. We will also study the potential synergistic function of several PD-linked proteins on synaptic endocytic pathway. We will perform biochemical, cell biological, genetic, physiological, pathological and behavioral experiments to address these questions using the PD mouse models and iPSC derived human patient neurons.

In addition to PD, we are also interested in investigating the pathogenic mechanisms of the impaired membrane/endocytic trafficking in other neurological disorders such as Alzheimer’s Disease, Down syndrome and epilepsy.

We are a part of the NBD, which is one of five Signature Research Programs at Duke-NUS. It has its home in a modern facility adjacent to the Singapore General Hospital and maintains strong basic, translational and clinical research partnerships throughout Singapore, including the National Neuroscience Institute. We will provide exciting opportunities and vibrant atmospheres as well as state-of-arts core facilities. We also offer a highly attractive remuneration package including competitive salary and fringe benefits. Excited and motivated individuals are all encouraged to apply.
