Scholarship Description:
Dr Tianlong Zhang will join the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (HKUST-MAE) of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Clearwater Bay) as a TenureTrack Assistant Professor in summer 2023. Dr Tianlong Zhang has been working on the design and microstructure tuning of advanced metallic materials in recent years, and has extensive research interests and experience in the cross-disciplinary field of multi-scale and multi-methods, such as computational simulation-experimental characterisation of materials. His main research interests include the design of advanced high performance alloys based on additive manufacturing (3D printing); experimental characterisation of microstructure evolution and phase transition pathways in metallic materials – phase field dynamics; and mechanical response and phase transition behaviour of substable alloys. His research results have been published in Science, Acta Materialia, Scripta Materialia and other international journals, and he has published high-level papers in both phase field simulation and experimental characterisation (for more information, see: https://scholar.google.com/). citations?user=80Zw31AAAAAJ&hl=zh-CN; https://www.researchgate.net/profile/Zhang-Tianlong/research ), has filed a number of related patents and software copyrights, and has served as a reviewer for a number of international journals and magazines. He has also served as a reviewer for a number of international journals and magazines.
Based on the Centre for Materials Characterisation and Preparation (MCPF) and the Centre for Materials, Design and Fabrication (MDMF) of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Clearwater Bay), the laboratory is equipped with advanced equipment for materials processing and microscopic characterisation, and has collaborated with the Ohio State University, the University of Hong Kong, the City University of Hong Kong, the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, the Xi’an Jiaotong University, the Harbin Institute of Technology, the Nanfang University of Science and Technology, the Shandong University, the Central University of China and the University of Hong Kong, City University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Xi’an Jiaotong University, Harbin Institute of Technology, Nanfang University of Science and Technology, Shandong University, Central South University, Northwestern Polytechnical University and other famous universities and renowned research groups.
The group encourages and supports PhD students to apply for scholarships (PGS ~19K HKD/month (basic) or HKPFS ~27K HKD/month (highly competitive)) offered by HKUST and the Hong Kong government. The research group provides a platform and conducive learning environment for students and researchers to fully develop their talents, and helps students in their future career planning as much as possible. We look forward to working with young talents who are passionate about research, motivated to work hard and have the spirit of teamwork!
