Scholarship Description:

Two fully-funded Ph.D. student positions are available in the Department of Computer and Information Sciences (CIS) at Towson University (TU) to begin in autumn 2023, spring 2024, or autumn 2024. Candidates with prior research experience in deep learning, big data, AI, data science, remote sensing, GIS, and health AI will be given favorable consideration.Summer/Fall/Spring interns or visiting scholars are also welcome to contact Dr Huang for collaboration. We encourage applications as early as possible.

Dr Huang will join the Department of Computer and Information Sciences (CIS) at Towson University (TU) as an Assistant Professor in autumn 2023. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. Previously, he received his MS in Computer Science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Peking University. Prior to joining the Ph.D. programme, he worked for several years in large technology companies in Silicon Valley, California. He also co-founded a software startup where he served as technical co-founder and chief architect. The company built an AI-driven product data sharing platform for e-commerce and successfully went public on the Toronto Stock Venture Exchange (TSXV).

His current research interests focus on deep learning, big data analytics, AI, data science, remote sensing, GIS and health AI, fairness. His work has been published in leading AI and Big Data conferences, as well as AI in Science/Climate/Health. The Department of Computer and Information Sciences at Towson University offers three undergraduate degree programmes: Computer Science, Information Systems, and Information Technology. We also offer two graduate programmes: M.S. in Computer Science and a Ph.D. in Information Technology. Currently, the CIS Department offers 80 undergraduate courses and more than 50 graduate courses, serving approximately 1,900 undergraduate and graduate students.
