Scholarship Description:

The Texas Heart Institute, located at the Texas Medical Center (TMC), is a not-for-profit institution that combines clinical and research. The Institute is dedicated to leading research in the field of the heart and providing optimal treatment for patients with cardiovascular disease.

Xiao Li’s group is part of the McGill Gene Editing Laboratory, which uses functional genomics, spatial genomics and single-cell genomics to study the gene regulation of various cardiovascular diseases. He has published high impact articles in Nature Biotechnology, Immunity and other journals in recent years. The lab is well funded and has extensive research collaborations with Baylor College of Medicine, UT Health Science Center and Rice University. We are now looking for a Bioinformatics Research Associate and a Postdoctoral Fellow in collaboration with our long-term partner Prof. James Martin. The main tasks are to integrate and analyse high-throughput sequencing results under the supervision of Dr. Xiao Li and Dr. James Martin, to develop new computational processes and tools, and to summarise their work in occasional group meetings and other communication sessions.

Eligibility criteria:

  • Proficiency in R or Python and familiarity with basic Linux operations are required. Machine learning related experience is preferred. BSc/MSc (Assistant Researcher) and PhD (Postdoctoral Researcher) in relevant disciplines are welcome to apply.
