Scholarship Description:

The Zhang Meng research group studies variations in RNA transcription, processing, and translation in cancer cells to identify potential new therapeutic targets. The team integrates multidisciplinary approaches, including clinical genomics, functional genomics, molecular biology, and CRISPR gene editing, to systematically explore RNA regulation’s role in cancer development, progression, and drug resistance.

Current research focuses on: 1) the functional study of microproteins associated with prostate cancer progression and drug resistance; 2) the regulatory mechanisms of oncogene expression mediated by atypical promoters through epigenetics; and 3) the regulation and application of the neuroendocrine tumor surface target DLL3. The team has sufficient funding and an open academic environment.

Dr. Zhang Meng will join Emory University School of Medicine’s Department of Urology and Winship Cancer Institute as an assistant professor in July 2025. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Wuhan University in 2012, a PhD in Cell Biology from Yale University in 2017, and a master’s in Computer Science from Stanford University in 2018. She completed postdoctoral training at UCSF from 2019 to 2021, with a solid interdisciplinary research background.

Her research has been published as first or co-author in journals such as Nature Cell Biology, Genes & Development, Nature Genetics, Nature Communications, and Cancer Research. Dr. Zhang focuses on RNA regulation’s role in biological development and cancer cells, aiming to uncover regulatory mechanisms with translational potential.

Eligibility criteria:

  • PhD in molecular biology, genetics, cancer biology, bioinformatics, or related fields, obtained or expected soon. Strong English communication and writing skills. Passion for research, strong sense of responsibility, and teamwork spirit. Preferred: Experience in RNA biology or epigenetics, CRISPR screening or gene editing, and proficiency in omics data analysis.
