Scholarship Description:

Dr. Shengyu Li’s lab, located at Houston Methodist / Weill Cornell Medicine, focuses on applying machine learning (ML), artificial intelligence (AI), and large language models (LLMs) to biomedical research. Key research areas include: (1) drug repurposing and discovery, (2) vaccine and sequence design, and (3) modeling to deepen the understanding of disease mechanisms.

Dr. Li’s significant research has been published in Nature Biotechnology, Nature Methods, Circulation Research, Nature Metabolism, and Circulation (Google Scholar). The lab offers a competitive salary and welcomes candidates with a strong technical background and a keen interest in these research areas.

Eligibility criteria:

  • PhD in computer science, bioinformatics, computational biology, biostatistics, or related fields (obtained or expected soon).
  • Proficient in programming languages such as Python, R, and Unix, with experience in large-scale data analysis.
  • Experience in machine learning projects, especially in LLM is preferred.
  • Preference for candidates with experience in single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) or other omics data analysis.
  • Excellent communication skills, innovative spirit, and initiative, with the ability to conduct independent research and collaborate with computational and experimental scientists, as well as lead projects.
