[Hiring: PhD/Postdoc/Technician] Dr. Bocheng Wu’s Research Group | Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, Texas State University

Scholarship: Fully-funded
Degree: Bachelor, Master, Ph.D
Nationality: International Students
Location: USA
Application deadlines: Open

Scholarship Description:

Dr. Bocheng Wu’s research group focuses on using small molecules to explore the molecular mechanisms of T cell exhaustion and to develop innovative cancer immunotherapy drugs. The lab is equipped with a small molecule microarray printing platform, integrating modern synthetic chemistry, biochemistry, and high-throughput screening to advance research from molecular target discovery to lead compound development.

Dr. Wu earned his Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from Marquette University in 2014 and his PhD in Chemistry from Georgia Tech in 2021, followed by postdoctoral research at MIT. He has dedicated his career to developing small molecule drugs related to cancer and inflammation, publishing 14 research papers (including 2 reviews) and applying for 2 patents. His research spans various disease models, including pulmonary fibrosis, liver fibrosis, triple-negative breast cancer, and hepatocellular carcinoma. During his postdoc, he led the development of molecular inhibitors targeting T cell exhaustion transcription factors, receiving several honors, including the PhRMA Research Award and the MIT Koch Frontier Award.

Available Subjects:

  • Small molecular inhibitors targeting key transcription factors of T cell exhaustion
  • Applications of epigenetic regulators in the anti-tumor immune microenvironment
  • Lead drug development for “undruggable” proteins (e.g., DNA repair enzymes, thrombin)

Eligibility criteria:

  • Experience in assay development and protein expression/purification
  • Proficient in Western blot, PCR, cell experiments, and functional assays
  • Ability to independently manage projects and solve problems
  • Familiarity with biophysical techniques such as SPR, ITC, and BLI is preferred
