Scholarship Description:

Dr. Jiaming Liang (https://jiaming-liang.github.io/) is recruiting graduate students for the PhD programme in Computer Science at the University of Rochester, starting in autumn 2024.

Dr Liang’s group develops the algorithmic foundations of data science. We design, analyse, and implement provably efficient and reliable algorithms to solve a general class of problems in data science.

The research scope is broad and includes algorithms for optimisation, sampling, and games. We are particularly interested in topics from operations research, machine learning, and economics.

Dr Jiaming Liang is an Assistant Professor in the Goergen Institute for Data Science and the Department of Computer Science at the University of Rochester. He was a postdoctoral researcher in computer science at Yale University. He received his Ph.D. in Operations from the Georgia Institute of Technology. Dr Liang has published in top journals and conferences such as SIAM Journal on Optimization, Mathematics of Operations Research, Conference on Learning Theory, American Control Conference, and Conference on Decision and Control.

 Available Subjects:

  • Non-linear optimisation
  • Stochastic programming
  • High-dimensional sampling
  • Differential privacy
  • Market equilibrium and design

Eligibility criteria:

  • Applications are encouraged from students in Computer Science, Applied Math, Statistics, Operations Research, Industrial Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related areas. Successful applicants should have strong background in applied math, statistics, and computation, and will receive full tuition coverage, competitive stipend, and graduate student employee benefits. They will also have access to modern research facilities, such as high-performance computing clusters, and professional development support including annual travel fund for conferences and workshops.

Application Procedure:
