Scholarship Description:

Multiple fully-funded Ph.D. student positions are available starting from Fall 2023, Spring 2024, or Fall 2024 in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) at the University of South Florida (USF).

Yili Ren will join the Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) at the University of South Florida (USF) as an Assistant Professor in autumn 2023. His research interests focus on mobile computing, with an emphasis on integrating the sensing capabilities of wireless and mobile devices to build new classes of Internet of Things (IoT) and smart home applications, enable novel human-computer interaction (HCI) technologies, and improve security in smart homes and IoT. His work has been published in leading venues in mobile computing, computer security, and human-computer interaction, including ACM SenSys, USENIX Security, and ACM IMWUT (UbiComp). The Department of Computer Science and Engineering has 28 tenure-track/tenured faculty members, 11 full-time teaching faculty, 2 visiting assistant professors, and 7 staff/advisors, and offers BS, MS, and Ph.D. degrees, serving over 2600 undergraduate students, over 200 master’s students, and about 100 doctoral students. USF CSE has a strong working relationship with CyberFlorida. CSE has eleven NSF CAREER awardees, one National Academy of Inventors (NAI) Fellow, three IEEE Fellows, three IAPR Fellows, three AAAS Fellows, and three AIMBE Fellows. USF CSE is ranked in the top 15% of public university computer science departments in the US.

  • Mobile Computing: Wireless Sensing Systems, Smartphone and Wearable Computing, Mobile Healthcare, Human-Computer Interaction Applications, Smart Home and Internet of Things Applications.
  • Cybersecurity: Mobile Authentication, Novel Biometrics, Smart Home and Internet of Things Security.

Eligibility criteria:

  • Candidates with prior research experience in wireless sensing, network/mobile systems, signal processing, cyber-physical systems, machine learning, and cybersecurity will be given favorable consideration. We encourage applications as early as possible.
