Scholarship Description:

The Multi-Scale Automation and Robotics Laboratory (MSARL) at City University of Hong Kong (CityU) focuses on micro- and nano-robotics, architectural robotics and multi-scale automation technologies to address bottlenecks in emerging interdisciplinary fields such as architecture and biomedical engineering. In recent years, the lab’s research team has applied soft robotics, artificial intelligence image analysis, and mixed/augmented reality to address key problems in industry and medicine. The Lab also has a deep research base in robotics theory and applications, and the Lab’s automation operating system has long been an international leader. The lab has won many awards in top international conferences and journals in the field of automation, such as the best paper award in ICRA, the best application paper award in IEEE Journal of Automation Science and Engineering, and the best robotics paper award in ICIA, etc. The lab director, Dr Jun Liu, is currently a member of the Hong Kong Institute of Technology.

The lab director, Dr Jun Liu, is currently an Assistant Professor at the Department of Mechanical Engineering, City University of Hong Kong (CityU), and the Associate Director of the CityU/China Academy of Sciences (CAS) Robotics Joint Laboratory. Dr Jun Liu graduated from the University of Toronto and obtained his PhD under the supervision of Professor Sun Yu, a member of both the Canadian Academy of Engineering and the Royal Academy of Sciences, and a foreign academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering. Through close collaboration with top scientists from internationally renowned research institutes, the laboratory’s research has long been at the forefront of the world, meeting the practical needs of multidisciplinary, cross-cutting fields.
