Scholarship Description:

Temple University, also known as Temple University, is located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on the east coast of the United States. Founded in 1884, Temple University is a prestigious public university with more than 130 years of history and is one of the three largest public universities in Pennsylvania.

Temple University is the 36th largest institution of higher education in the United States in terms of acreage, with 17 schools, including the School of Business, School of Law, School of Medicine, School of Pharmacy, and School of Dentistry, offering 134 undergraduate majors, 121 master’s degrees, and 56 doctoral degrees, and bringing together more than 39,000 students. In 2021, it was ranked 63rd in the QS rankings of US universities.

According to the 2016 Carnegie Rankings of America’s Research Universities (RU-VHR), Temple University is ranked among the top 108 research universities in the United States and is a Tier 1 national university. The university has 11 majors ranked in the top 10 in the nation, including apologetics, insurance, and international business; more than 10 majors ranked in the top 20 in the nation; and dozens of majors ranked in the top 100 in the nation.

Philadelphia, where Temple University is located, is also known as the “City of Friendship” and is the fourth largest metropolitan area in the US after New York, Los Angeles and Chicago, as well as being the birthplace of the United States and extremely friendly to people of Chinese descent. The only US honorary degree received by Comrade Deng Xiaoping was an honorary Doctor of Laws degree from Temple University. Temple University endowed the Tsinghua University School of Law (quoted from the Tsinghua University website): The Tsinghua-Temple project is the longest-running cooperative legal project in China, and the former State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs (SFAA) hailed the project as a “model of China-US exchange in the field of jurisprudence”. In his meeting with the president of Temple University, President Jiang Zemin described the programme as “a noble mission to cultivate high-quality and complex foreign-related legal talents”.

Dr Yuzhou Chen joined the Department of Computer and Information Science at Temple University in 2022. Prior to Temple University, he was a postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Princeton University, where he received his B.S. in 2021 from Southern Methodist University. He received his Ph.D. in Statistics from Southern Methodist University (Department of Statistics and Data Science, Southern Methodist University) in 2021. He has completed internships at INRIA (2018), National Renewable Energy Laboratory (2019), and Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (2020-2022).

His main research interests include deep learning, machine learning, graph neural network learning, graph mining, time series analysis, topological analysis, and applications of machine learning and deep learning to power grids, satellite imagery, environmental sciences, life sciences, and blockchain. He is currently leading or participating in several research projects supported by NSF, NASA, and other agencies.
