Dr. Zhong made significant contributions to the innate immunity field by establishing mitochondria as the “command center” for innate immune activation and regulation (Nature. 2018 Aug;560(7717):198-203; Cell. 2016 Feb 25;164(5):896-910).
Dr. Zhong’s lab is now investigating how mitochondria sense stress signals, and how they “message” other cellular organelles and nucleus to generate a coordinatedand tightly controlled immune response, whose ultimately goal is to eliminate inflammatory insults and restore homeostasis.
