Scholarship Description:

Dr S.C. Wong is a Lecturer (Assistant Professor) in Transport Engineering in the Department of Civil and Natural Resource Engineering at the University of Canterbury, where he is committed to advancing the development of smart cities through innovative research. Dr Wong received his Ph.D. in Transportation Engineering from the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Hong Kong (HKU) under the supervision of Professor S.C. Wong. Prior to joining UC, he worked as a postdoctoral fellow under the supervision of Professor Henry Liu in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Michigan (USA).

Dr Wei Wang’s research interests cover the areas of traffic big data analytics, traffic data fusion, traffic model estimation methods, network-wide macroscopic traffic flow models, cybersecurity in networked environments, intelligent transportation systems (ITS), and road safety analysis. Dr Wang’s research has been published in the world’s leading journals and conferences such as Transportation Science, Transportation Research Part B, and Transportation Research Part C. He is also a member of the International Association of Transportation Researchers (IATR).  Available Subjects:

  • Big data analytics, Internet of Things (IoT), intelligent transport systems (ITS), smart connected vehicles (CAVs) and smart city development.

Eligibility criteria:

  1. -Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in transportation engineering, civil engineering, computer science, applied mathematics, or a related field
  2. -Strong programming skills (e.g. Python/MATLAB/C++)
  3. -Experience in big data analysis, traffic simulation or modelling is a plus
  4. -Strong interest in Smart City development and willingness to work in an interdisciplinary international team.
