Scholarship Description:
Dr. Yue Zheng received his undergraduate degree from Fudan University in 2015 and his PhD in Mechanical Engineering from the University of California, San Diego in 2020. He has conducted postdoctoral research at the University of Southern California and the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, and will join the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Mechanics at Drexel University as an Assistant Professor in 2023. His research interests include soft materials and metamaterial mechanics, and his research has been published as first author in PRL, PNAS, and JMPS. He was awarded 2022 Rising Stars in Mechanical Engineering, 2020 Distinguished PhD Student Fellowship at UC San Diego, and 2020 National Scholarship for Self-Funded International Students.

Available Subjects:
Zheng’s group plans to conduct a combination of theoretical, computational and experimental research in the field of soft materials and structures, with future research interests including but not limited to
- mechanical analysis and experiments on contact and adhesion of soft materials, and their applications in the field of interaction.
- mechanical characterisation, design and application of various types of intelligent soft materials, soft body robots.
- The study of mechanical properties of biological soft tissues and their morphology and function.
Eligibility criteria:
- PhD applications require a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in mechanics, mechanics, materials, polymers or bioengineering, with experience in soft materials theory and experimentation, polymer synthesis or finite element calculations preferred.
