Scholarship Description:

The Mechanisms and Robotic Systems (MARS) lab at Purdue University School of Industrial Engineering has a fully funded PhD opening for Fall 2023 on robotic manipulation. The key research areas in our group include robotic manipulation, soft robotics, robot design, tactile perception, and machine learning. Dr. Yu She is a tenure-track assistant professor at Purdue University School of Industrial Engineering. Previously, he spend three years as a postdoc at MIT Computer Science & Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL). He received his PhD in Mechanical Engineering at Ohio State University in 2018. He is a recipient of Google Research Scholar Award and a few best paper recognitions, including the Best Paper Finalist at the 2020 Robotics: Science and Systems (RSS), the Best Paper Award at the 2018 ASME Dynamic Systems & Control Conference (DSCC), and the Best Paper Finalist at the 2013 IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Biomimetics (ROBIO).

Available Subjects:

  • For this position, we are looking for candidates with strong backgrounds in robotic motion planning, machine learning, control theory, and excellent programming skills (python and C/C++). Candidates with Bachelor’s or M.S. degrees in ME, ECE, IE, AE, CS, or equivalent are welcome to apply.  

Eligibility criteria:

  • a bachelor’s or master’s degree in biology, bioengineering, chemistry, physics, or a related discipline, obtained or to be obtained.
  • a preference for applicants with a technical background in one of the following: single-cell omics (proteomics, transcriptomics, epigenetics, genomics), microscopy, microfluidics, fluorescence imaging, mass spectrometry, biochemistry and molecular biology and data analysis
  • a passion for science, meticulous honesty and critical thinking
  • have a minimum score on the TOEFL or IELTS (no GRE required).
