Scholarship Description:

The Life Sciences Institute (LSI) at the University of Michigan is currently home to 23 faculty members in the disciplines of neuroscience, physiology, genetics, cell biology, chemical biology, and structural biology, including several Howard Hughes Medical Institute investigators and members of the National Academies of Medicine or Sciences. Our culture centers on upholding scientific excellence, embracing risk, and collaborating across disciplines to achieve an impact greater than the sum of our individual parts. For more information on the LSI:https://www.lsi.umich.edu

The Li lab is interested in understanding the molecular and neural basis underlying respiratory behaviors. We employ a combination of state-of-the-art approaches, including viral circuit tracing, optogenetics, chemogenetics, pharmacology, single cell RNAseq, and functional imaging, to dissect the heterogeneity and functions of neuronal populations in the breathing control circuit, and to identify the mechanism underlying the interactions betweenrespiratory behaviors and the emotional and physiological states.

Available Subjects:

Neuroscience, physiology, or a related field.

Eligibility criteria:

Applicants with expertise in areas including but not limited to, mouse genetics and behaviors, neural circuit tracing and manipulation, functional imaging, and respiratory physiology, are welcome to apply.

Application Process

Interested applicants please contact [email protected] with cover letter describing research experiences and interests, curriculum vitae, and contact information for three letters of reference.
