Scholarship: Full scholarship
Degree: PhD, MD
Nationality: International Students
Location: USA
Application deadlines: Open
Scholarship Description:
The Ren Lab (www.ren-lab.org), led by Dr Jian Ren, is currently seeking highly motivated postdoctoral researchers to work at the interface of imaging, nanotechnology and computational science with broad biomedical applications such as brain mapping and Alzheimer’s disease. The lab aims to understand complex biological systems by developing large-scale imaging and mapping methods. The team integrates photonic, biochemical and computational approaches to enable quantitative studies of fully assembled biosystems at the ‘ground truth’ level, addressing the fundamentals of these systems in a systematic and scalable manner. The Ren Lab also aims to develop enabling medical tools based on new photonic devices and to integrate complementary modalities for a wide range of clinical applications, such as intra-operative guidance.
The lab is housed in the Gordon Center for Medical Imaging at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School. With a full range of state-of-the-art research facilities and collaborations with many world-renowned institutions in the greater Boston area, including MIT, Harvard, Broad and BU, the lab enjoys a highly interdisciplinary and intellectually stimulating scientific environment. The Lab values mutually enriching mentorship with a focus on career development. Fellows are encouraged and supported to pursue independent research by developing collaborations with multiple faculty members, mentoring junior faculty, teaching graduate seminars, and writing grants.
Available Subjects:
- Understanding of mechanisms of cardiovascular development, disease and regeneration
Eligibility criteria:
Potential candidates should have the drive and creativity to lead their projects independently. Fellows will have the opportunity to work in several highly innovative and promising research areas (see www.ren-lab.org for more details):
- Optical: high-throughput volumetric imaging
- Biochemical: Long-Time Nanoscale Proteomic Contrast Synthesis
- Computational: Cross-scale, cross-modality image validation, graph analysis and topological abstraction
- Translational: Multimodal systems and miniaturised devices
Application Procedure:
Fellows are appointed through Harvard Medical School. The positions are available immediately and are fully funded with benefits. The initial appointment will be for two years with the possibility of renewal. Interested candidates should contact Dr Ren ([email protected]) with a curriculum vitae and a cover letter describing their research interests and experience.
