We are looking for data science researchers who are interested in interdisciplinary research collaborations and have a solid foundation in machine learning and image processing. The responsibilities of the position will include the following.
Participate in the development, implementation, and management of high-throughput phenotyping (image acquisition and analysis) software.
Conduct methodological research in image processing, 3D modeling, point clouds (from LiDAR and/or SFM), vegetation indices, and plant morphology.

In your part of the project, you will look at the fate of plant root-derived organic matter as a function of 3D soil structure and soil mineral composition. Thus, together we will work to better understand the interactions between plant roots and their properties, microbial activity, and the physical soil structure that regulates the fate of persistent soil organic matter. This work will range from highly controlled laboratory-scale experiments to field trials where we will test root-microbe-soil interactions. You will apply stable isotope tracing, classical soil biogeochemical methods, and state-of-the-art spectroscopic imaging techniques (e.g., scanning electron microscopy, nanoscale secondary ion mass spectrometry) to support quantitative data through in situ process-scale observations.

We are looking for candidates to join the ALFi project: Assessing Hearing Fatigue in Everyday Life, which aims to develop methods to measure and predict the extra cognitive effort typically required by hearing aid users in noisy environments compared to their normal hearing peers. The project will use a mixed experimental approach so that participants are tested in a laboratory under controlled conditions as well as in a longitudinal field trial lasting several weeks in everyday life. You will be the lead person for the design and execution of the field trial, which will include the development of a smartphone-based questionnaire and a data recording protocol using various sensors (acoustic and physiological). In addition, you will analyze, explore, and interpret data from laboratory experiments and field trials.

Type 2 diabetes is a chronic metabolic disease characterized by systemic and tissue-specific metabolic alterations, hyperglycemia, hyperinsulinemia, and peripheral tissue insulin resistance. a risk factor for the development of type 2 diabetes is the disruption of circadian rhythms. Circadian rhythms are driven by the biological clock, which is synchronized with environmental stimuli such as light, diet and exercise. Research conducted at this postdoctoral position will elucidate the mechanisms by which biological clock mechanisms regulate physiological and epigenetic processes in a circadian manner and how synchronizing the timing of therapeutic interventions (e.g., diet and exercise) to the molecular biological clock can optimize the treatment of type 2 diabetes.
